Smoke and MirrorsBusy working on editing a cooking dvd project and have just spent the weekend working in "After Effects" creating animated graphics. Above is a still from one version of the opening sequence - it really is a wonderful piece of software to use. Below is a video of the version finally arrived at with added sound effect. A brief ten second animated ident* to be placed at the beginning. The wonderful thing about working in "After Effects" is it versatility. Often you start out with a vague idea and begin working on it and it just starts evolving as you explore possibilities. While on one hand is offers almost limitless options it is also very subtle allowing you to add little nuances as you refine the animation. It has to be my favourite software simply for it's ability to stimulate the imagination. |
Potato Day at Garden OrganicA short film shot over the weekend of the 28/29th January at Garden Organics Potato Day. Like many other visitors I bought my seed potatoes from the huge range of varieties available. This year I will be growing Vivaldi, Salad Blue and a new variety called poetically Mayan Twilight. Really enjoyed the informative talks from a series of experts than ran through the weekend. I am pretty pleased with the film and hope it conveys all that was happening over the weekend. |

Grow and EatI recently discovered this wonderful quote from Brendan Behan, “If you have a talent use it in every which way possible. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.” With this in mind I have launched three new sites to celebrate my passion for food, cooking and my more recently discovered delight in growing my own vegetables and herbs. Of course the garden and kitchen often present excellent photography opportunities so expect to see lots of my photographs being posted. |
A personal favouriteOne thing keeping Life interesting is working with new equipment and software. The possibilities seem endless and I am constantly learning, testing and discovering. Last year I shot video on a DSLR,the Canon 550D, for the first time. At the end of the shoot I took advantage of the gorgeous light and autumn colours to try some soft focus tests. Pleased with the results I edited some of this test material to the wonderful music of Jose Travieso. This short test film has become a personal favourite and I look forward to shooting more video on a DSLR later this year. |

This varied work results from my range of skills and experience gained from working for over twenty years in television production and photography. While it is satisfying to have some credentials the excitement and challenges in life are found in asking, what's next?
